Sociotype is a new independent art and culture magazine that is also a typographic specimen. Born from the London printing studio Socio, its founders Nic Carter and Henrietta Thompson have created a one-of-a-kind magazine, which not only illustrates and presents the new fonts created by the studio, but reflects them in the real world, thus creating an almost invisible connection between type design and society.
So do not expect a magazine full of typefaces or a magazine dedicated exclusively to graphic designers, Sociotype speaks first of all of culture and society and does so in over 220 pages of in-depth articles and images, dedicated to a different issue by issue.

Dimensions 210x275 mm

ISSUE 1 - GESTURA
The creation of the first issue of the magazine went hand in hand with the creation of the Gestura typeface (created by Joe Leadbeater, Diana Ovezea and Nigel Bates who is also the art director of Sociotype), so much so as to influence the design itself.
Starting from the name and type of Gestura, a serif font that recalls hand-made calligraphy, the first issue of the magazine is dedicated to gestures, from political ones such as the fist, to ambivalent ones such as the symbol of peace that in many countries, when turned, it is equivalent to our middle finger.
Among the pages we find archive materials, short essays, photographic projects and, only at the bottom, the presentation of the font.
