ISSUE 7
The seventh issue of Ossigeno deals with the state of health of the right, in Italy and in the world: the political events of the last year have pushed a large part of public opinion to celebrate their defeat, the decline of sovereignties and populisms that had seemed on the rise in recent years. Trump's defeat in America, the end of the two Conte governments, the installation of Draghi and the recent reconfirmation of Sergio Mattarella in Italy have prompted commentators to celebrate the narrow escape for democracies, but is this really the case?
Our analysis says that there is little to rest assured: as Carlo Verdelli explains, "dark forces are stirring", while on the other side of the ocean, according to Enrico Deaglio, Trumpism is far from being defeated. The pandemic has created a momentary "need for the presence of the state", but increasingly extreme forces are coming forward throughout Europe, which no longer have any restraint in using xenophobic and violent arguments. With the addition of a disturbing element, since even behind the no vax demonstrations, and conspiracies in general, the matrix is always the same, very black, and a subversive design emerges that aims to undermine trust in even imperfect democratic institutions.
Therefore, it is better to watch over the upcoming season, in spite of an unjustified optimism: it is a duty for every citizen and we believe that even Ossigeno, in this, must do its part. We hope you want to join us.
