ISSUE 9 - 1:76 by Thom Atkinson
The leitmotif of this publishing project has to do with British history and how it is mythologized and remembered. For the author, the ruins of Airfix (1:76 scale, hence the name of the zine) can be considered as small rediscovered sculptures, made in memory of a war that happened long ago, even before the modelers were probably born . They are like devotions and dreams, chests of memory and mythology.
Thom Atkinson is a British artist. His work develops mainly in a documentary sense and is centered on people, objects and places. His style is characterized by his gentle approach, his good observer skills and the great care taken in creating images.
In 2015 Thom published his first photographic book. He also begins to deal with the documentation of the physical and fantasy landscapes of the London Blitz. Thus was born his interest in Great Britain, conflicts and mythology.
