ISSUE 17 + COUNTER CULTURE INSERT
Issue 17 of Sysem magazine explores the future of shopping. With cover star Mr Ji, founder and president of SKP Beijing, and José Neves, founder of Farfetch.
In February of this year, SKP Beijing was reported to have become the world's best performing luxury department store. The news highlighted what is likely the decisive transition, both pre and post-pandemic, for the global luxury fashion market: the appetite and purchasing power of Chinese consumers are now supporting the profitability of many Western brands.
System has spent the past six months exploring the world of SKP for our cover story. This is the first time that its founder and president Ji has agreed to be interviewed, so we took advantage of it and invited Patrizio Bertelli, CEO of Prada, and Jonathan Anderson, creative director of Loewe and JW Anderson, to record the conversations with him. .
Our second cover story features José Neves, founder of the e-commerce giant Farfetch. In a wide-ranging interview, Neves discusses the realities of online success during the lockdown, the convergence of virtual and physical fashion, and how Farfetch's 'Luxury New Retail' is transforming the shopping experience.
The photos of both cover stories were made by Juergen Teller.
