ISSUE 2 - Uncertainty
This issue explores the possibilities that arise when uncertainty is considered at the heart of documentary photographic practice. The documentary is based on conjecture rather than knowledge, but it is only when this is embraced as the essence of the genre that unexpected results can emerge.
Uncertainty and speculation can push the idea of representation through the documentary to new levels of experimentation, doubts and questions both in form and in content. The more than 20 contributions to this issue offer proposals for the new uncertain potential of the documentary, whether as a docu-fiction, allegory or pre-enactment, or even the anti-documentary as an aesthetic cure.
